Scalp micro pigmentation is a non-surgical procedure in which natural pigment is applied to the epidermal layer of the scalp as to replace the already appearance of natural hair follicles. The surface area of the scalp is most importantly focused where hair loss has already occurred, thus creates new hairlines for the client. It often uplifts the client’s confidence; Scalp Micro-Pigmentation also paves a way to cover any surgical scars from past procedures. For example, if a client has previously had a hair transplant procedure, SMP can be executed to help camouflage any wounds and imperfections.

Artists create tattoos by injecting ink into the client’s skin. This instrument operates a needle up and down to pierce the skin between 50 and 3000 times per minute. The needle penetrates the skin approximately one millimetre and accumulates a drop of insoluble ink on the surface with each puncture.

Difference between Scalp Micropigmentation and Tattoos:

• An ordinary tattoo needle is too big and imprecise, whereas; the needle used for SMP is called a “3-point-micro-needle.” It’s 75% smaller than the smallest needle a traditional tattoo artist uses. The purpose of using such a small needle is that it vanishes the difference between actual hair follicles and ink deposited.
• The technique is one of the most significant differences between micro scalp pigmentation and traditional tattoos. Traditional tattooing involves scraping method to get the desired outlook. In contrast, Scalp micro pigmentation uses a dotting and pointillism method where the practitioner places tiny dots into the skin to create the look of natural hair follicles.
• Scalp micro pigmentation is significantly less painful as compared to traditional tattoo.
• SMP uses different instruments than the conventional tattoo’s instruments.
• SMP conceals scars from hair transplants, neurosurgical procedures, or burns but tattoos only give an outlook of art and designs.

Whereas, tattoos are only made to create art along with having the natural look of hair follicle dots, but this technique is much more painful as uses thick needle and ink as well which may cause various skin infections and allergies.
