The story
He was a barber long before he was a practitioner
Twain Taylor is a California-certified scalp micropigmentation practitioner and Master Barber with more than twenty-five years in the hair industry. He owns SMP Mobile, based in Encino, and treats clients from across Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.
Barbering runs in the family. Twain learned the trade at twelve under his grandfather, Robert Knox, and the first skill he was taught was control: shaving a balloon clean without breaking it. That standard — steady hands, no damage — is still the whole job.
Decades behind the chair taught him things a technician can't learn from a course: how a hairline should sit on a particular forehead, how hair grows in whorls and irregular patterns, and how different skin tones hold colour. SMP is where that knowledge finally has a permanent canvas.
It also means honest consultations. If SMP won't give you what you're picturing — or if a medical treatment or a transplant is the better answer — you'll hear that before you spend anything.

Age 12
First pair of scissors
Twain started cutting hair at twelve, trained by his grandfather Robert Knox — who taught him to razor-shave a balloon without popping it. Control and patience, learned before anything else.
25+ years
Master Barber
Licensed and building a hair-care business that has now run for more than twenty-five years, across barbering, grooming and hair replacement.
Certification
Into pigment
Certified in scalp micropigmentation, then trained as an educator — teaching other practitioners the technique and the judgement behind it.

Where the work is most technical
Most procedures are hairline and density work. The cases below are the ones clients travel for.
Scar Camouflage
SMP can break up the contrast of a scar so it stops reading as a line or a patch and starts blending into the surrounding hair.
Women's SMP
Women's SMP is quieter work. The goal is density at the part line, not a shaved head — lower contrast, finer dots, careful blending into longer hair.
SMP Correction
Work done badly can usually be improved. Correction is slower and more careful than a first treatment, and I'll tell you honestly what's achievable before you commit.
