SMP Correction & Repair in Los Angeles

Work done badly can usually be improved. Correction is slower and more careful than a first treatment, and I'll tell you honestly what's achievable before you commit.

Even, natural-looking scalp micropigmentation density after correction work

Most correction work I see falls into a few patterns: a hairline placed too low or too straight, pigment that has faded to blue or grey, density that is patchy after a few years, or a hard edge where the SMP meets natural hair. Sometimes the original work is simply too dark for the skin tone it sits in.

Correction isn't a matter of going over it again. Heavily pigmented areas can't be erased without laser, and adding more ink on top makes the problem worse. What we can do is restructure the shape, add density in the right places, and neutralise colour with warmer pigment where the skin will accept it. Where laser is the correct first step, I'll say so.

Straight talk

If your previous work is very dark or very deep, laser reduction may need to come before SMP correction. I don't have a laser in the studio and I won't pretend otherwise — I'll refer you to someone who does and pick up once the skin has settled.

Common problems we can address

  • Hairlines set too low, too straight or too dense
  • Pigment that has faded blue, green or grey
  • Patchy or uneven density after a few years
  • Hard transitions between treated scalp and natural hair
  • Old work that no longer matches a changed hair pattern
  • Small areas of overworked or blown-out pigment

The approach

How this work is done here

Different tissues and different goals need different techniques. This is the order of operations.

01

Full assessment first

We look at depth, saturation and colour under neutral light. Some pigment has to be lightened before anything else is added.

02

Rebuild the shape

Where possible the hairline is re-mapped and the surrounding area blended so the shape reads correctly for your face.

03

Colour correction

Warm or neutral pigment can pull blue-grey work back toward a natural tone, session by session, with realistic expectations set each time.
